A CHAT WITH MATT
When did you start exploring the ocean and how did your passion develop from there?
I have been exploring the ocean since as long as I can remember. My parents especially my mother instilled a love of wildlife in me from a young age. My earliest memory, is of walking along a beach in Florida after a hurricane and finding a stranded stingray. My father and I, mainly him as I was a young child under the watchful eye of my mother returned it to the sea to watch it happily swim off. I think ever since then I've loved the ocean and it's inhabitants.
What was your best moment in the wild thus far?
The most memorable moment in nature is an almost impossible thing to answer, and will probably change depending on the moon. Finding a dead sperm whale carcass stands out at the moment. Witnessing 7 full grown tiger sharks feasting on it is a sight and smell I will never forget.
What do you like about being a group leader?
What I find most special as a group leader is being able to share my love of wildlife with people, because if you don't love something you have no urge to protect it. I go out of my way to encourage guests to learn about the destination we are visiting.
The most important things you are trying to achieve for your guests?
I try and provide an enriching experience on every trip. I'm happy to teach about wildlife or help others improve thier diving on ever excursion.
